Gillespie Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with an innovative and rapidly growing organisation to recruit a Modelling and Optimisation Specialist.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking technical team, developing industry-leading modelling and optimisation software that tackles some of the world’s most important challenges.

The Role

You will play a key role in developing and enhancing advanced modelling and optimisation software solutions, working on back-end engine code and delivering robust, efficient algorithms.

This role blends technical development, research and development, and client-facing consultancy, offering variety and the chance to make a genuine impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new software products and features using Python
  • Lead the design and implementation of optimisation algorithms
  • Contribute to research and development activities
  • Maintain and improve existing software features
  • Identify and scope new product features and future R&D opportunities
  • Support consultancy projects using modelling and optimisation tools
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to deliver technical solutions
  • Represent the organisation at conferences and industry events
  • Stay up to date with emerging industry challenges and innovations

About You

  • Strong background in engineering, mathematics, or physics
  • Highly experienced in Python programming within a commercial environment
  • Proven ability to define and implement optimisation algorithms
  • Experience working with complex modelling and real-world data challenges
  • Understanding of model-based engineering and accuracy considerations
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
  • Innovative, self-motivated, and solutions-focused mindset

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with optimisation in the energy sector (e.g. offshore wind)
  • Knowledge of areas such as power systems modelling, wind analysis, or marine engineering
  • Experience with data science, data analysis, or additional programming languages
  • Ability to contribute to business development or proposal writing
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
